At Inside Swedish Design in Stockholm, Folkform showcased a new collection of lighting fixtures called Plissé. It was created in collaboration with Swedish designer Roland Hjort. The line is represented by original table lamps, which are made according to a special technology of traditional pleating. This is the technique used when sewing pleated dresses and skirts. It is worth noting that the collection turned out to be so interesting that it was nominated for the Swedish Design Award for Furniture 2021.

The material used in lamps to create the base and lampshade is textiles. The inner part of the frame is made of wire. As noted by one of the founders of the studio, Chandra Alsell, the designers of the company have carefully analyzed the classic methods of shirring, which are inherent in the modern fashion industry. To achieve the desired result, the team spent hours experimenting with cloth and paper, folding it in all sorts of ways.

In addition to the special pleating method, the lamps are decorated with exclusive prints. Roland Hjort was responsible for their development. Some of the ideas depict surrealism, which is transformed into a variety of spatial forms.

Folkform studio is currently in negotiations with luminaire manufacturers about the possibility of launching the Plissé range of lamps. By the way, the first batch of lamps presented at the exhibition was made by an experienced Swedish upholsterer. As Chandra points out, Folkform has a strong focus on the manufacturing process that underlies the products. Therefore, the priority of the company is cooperation with local enterprises.
