Ben Young's Fantastic Marine Compositions

Exhibits of incredible beauty are created by the talented sculptures Ben Young. Ben was born and raised in New Zealand, and then moved to live in Australia. Yang's main activity is shipbuilding, and his main hobby is surfing. Therefore, it is not surprising that the ocean is an integral part of the life of a self-taught sculptor.



The powerful waves of the ocean have fascinated Young with their magnetism since childhood. He watched them every day in the Plenty Bay area of ​​his native New Zealand, where he lived with his family. Their beauty and strength awakened vivid emotions and fantasies in him. And after a while Ben figured out how to preserve the memories of what surrounds him in the material. He managed to convey his vision of beauty, "reviving" glass.



The sculptures created by the sculptor look like real ocean waves. The craftsman achieves such realism thanks to the materials used: sheets of flop glass and concrete. Skillful combination by the author of such different textures gives a unique and organic end result.

Before starting work, Ben prepares a preliminary sketch, thinking over every detail of the future creation. Then he painstakingly applies a drawing on the glass with a marker. And after that, he takes up the hardest part of the job: hand-carving glass sheets.



A real seascape with three-dimensional relief is obtained at the moment when the author combines all the layers of glass into a single composition. According to Ben Young, lighting has a significant impact on the correct perception of his sculptures. When the light source is from below, the figures take on a rich turquoise hue with delicate azure tints.

Ben has been doing this kind of creativity for over 15 years. His work has outgrown the hobby format. Ben Young's sculptures have received international acclaim. Today they are exhibited at exhibitions along with the creations of other famous sculptors.
