What needlewomen do not come up with to decorate their home. Polymer clay is often used to decorate various objects. There are many techniques for working with this material. Today OXO will introduce you to a new trend - clay knitting.

Of course, such a process is not formally knitting, because knitting needles and threads are not needed for it. But the finished product outwardly looks like a real knitted fabric: airy and voluminous. The only difference is that it is solid and does not change its shape. You can decorate anything in this way: flower pots, flowerpots, boxes, tin and glass jars, candlesticks and containers for storing cereals.

To sculpt voluminous braids, you will need: polymer clay in one or different shades (optional), a board, a knife. Also, an extruder will not be superfluous to form clay strands of the correct shape.

Before starting work, the clay should be prepared. For this, the required amount of clay is thoroughly mixed by hand. Then it is slightly kneaded and divided into equal pieces. Each of the parts obtained is carefully rolled out on a flat surface. Roll until you get sausages of the same thickness along the entire length. A special extruder will make this task easier. With its help, the blanks will be in perfect shape. But you can also cope without it.

Now you can start the weaving procedure. To do this, join two pieces of rolled clay together and twist in the opposite direction from each other. Pinching off the excess pieces from above and below, secure each of the resulting braids together. While observing the pattern, make sure the braids are positioned as needed.

It remains to make the edging. To do this, after securing all the braids, roll out two more bundles and distribute them along the product (top and bottom). This action will hide the places where the excess parts were pinched off.

The final stage is baking the craft in the oven. The time and temperature are indicated on the polymer clay packaging. Follow the instructions as different brands of clay may require special conditions. Having tried this method of decorating objects with your own hands at least once, you will understand that this is a very exciting process. Plus, it's light enough.

Go for it! And you will succeed!
