Gardening is a hobby of Sam Van Aken, a former professor at Syracuse University. About 10 years ago, he took up the cultivation of unusual trees.

The American crossed stone fruits on one tree. The joining of the branches took place at the young tree stage. The idea turned out to be so attractive that Sam Van Aken took part in an international project.

Given the climatic characteristics of individual states, the former professor managed to grow more than 16 different specimens. The Fruit Orchard is located on the grounds of the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose.

The breeding work was preceded by serious preparation. Sam Van Aken created schemes, studied the possibilities of combining various fruit trees, consulted with breeders, prepared inventory.

As the American noted, it is impossible to control which plants will grow faster on a tree. It is more successful to get accustomed to climate conditions, to adapt to your “neighbors”. The design and modeling rules do not apply to this level of hobby gardening.

This is not to say that different fruits on the same tree are what struck the most. Blooming is a real storm of emotions. Creams, whites, pinks, reds and purples are simply amazing.

Sam Van Aken's hobby is an example of how a person far from gardening found himself in this business. It took five years for the tree to bear its first fruits. Perseverance, the desire to be first and the conquest of the unknown did their job.

The former university professor plans to continue working on the creation of hybrid trees. Now he decided to move on to conifers.

Recently, OXO reported on gardening using the example of a white garden.
