Lack of proper disposal and excessive consumption of various things leads to global environmental disasters. If you learn to give a second life to objects that are no longer subject to use, then you can avoid global problems associated with environmental pollution.

One of the main environmental pollutants in 2020 was
medical masks. Researchers have seriously considered the issue of mask recycling. Scientists at RMIT University have concluded that this protective agent can be used to create a material suitable for the construction of sidewalks and road paving. They came up with an effective way to grind the masks for the subsequent addition of the resulting pieces to the concrete.

To make the concrete aggregate with the perfect consistency, the team experimented for a long time with the required concentration. It is known that to give concrete the correct stiffness, elasticity and strength, 80 percent grain composition is added to it. The material, developed by scientists, turned out to be very plastic, strong and perfectly suitable for use in road construction. The researchers achieved such characteristics thanks to the correctly calculated ratio of masks and construction waste. After passing the tests, it turned out that the concrete from the masks meets all the necessary standards for road construction.

The developers noted that three million masks, equivalent to 93 tons of garbage, will be enough to create a kilometer two-lane road. The main problem that scientists see is to establish a mechanism for collecting masks that go to the landfill. Therefore, they urge people to treat our planet responsibly and throw used masks into trash containers.
