Scientists from the Universities of Gettin and Munster assembled a high-resolution budget microscope using Lego. The existence of the device became possible due to the wide possibilities of the constructor for children and the characteristics of modern smartphones.

The main task set by the developers is to make the device accessible to a wide range of users. Technological microscopes are fragile and expensive. For most people, such a product is a luxury item. But scientists have found a solution to the issue in everyday smartphones. Modern gadgets are equipped with powerful lenses that show even microcells. The robust lenses were incorporated into a body made from Lego pieces by the research team. After conducting the experiments, the researchers assured that the product meets the parameters typical of standard microscopes.

In order for everyone to be able to assemble the microscope on their own, the developers have written a guide for assembly and use.

To test the step-by-step instructions, the scientists suggested assembling a microscope for a group of children (9-13 years old). The scientists kept the design stages under control without interfering with the main assembly process. The team's help was required at the time of aligning the magnifying glasses. The researchers hope that their simplified microscope will become popular in homes and schools around the world and will inspire children to explore science.
