The American company Arm has presented a processor equipped with a flexible design. The new design does not use silicon.
The novelty represents transistors in the form of thin films, which are deposited on a soft base. Outwardly, the chip resembles a plastic element.
The technical characteristics of the device are quite impressive. However, some users may find them insufficient. But, according to company representatives, the design of the new chip is 12 times more complex than similar devices.
It is noted that Arm has previously tried to implement the idea of a flexible processor. But at that time, the company was limited by its technical capabilities. Now the development is in preparation for mass production. As for the economic component, such chips will be even cheaper than their silicon counterparts.
The company added that the power of the chip is not yet sufficient to power large devices - smartphones, tablets, computers. Perhaps while the chip will be used in medical sensors. Although the developers do not exclude that it will become a derivative product for creating new devices.
In the near future, Arm plans to complete preparations for the production of "flexible" chips and try to implement them in medical equipment.
Such products periodically appear in the section of the OXO website
"PCs, laptops, tablets, office equipment". Among other things, there you can buy computer equipment, servers and components, laptops, tablets and accessories.
