Startup Ample announced the introduction of an automatic system for the rapid replacement of electric vehicle batteries. The company sets itself the main goal: to increase the number of electric cars on the roads of the whole world. The startup has already attracted 70 mln dollars to develop its idea, 31 of which were provided by the giant Shell.
When designing a station for the rapid replacement of discharged batteries, the developers adhered to certain principles. Their idea was to create a low cost, versatile system that would replenish energy on board electric vehicles with maximum efficiency and speed.
The Ample device lifts the car using platforms that are located under each of the wheels. Having approached under the bottom, the robotic installation changes the dead battery to a charged one. All stages of the process take no more than 10 minutes. And the startup plans to further reduce this time.
The peculiarity of the station is that, unlike other similar developments, it does not require the creation of recesses when installed in the ground. To accommodate it, you only need access to electricity and a space the size of two standard cars. The time required to recharge the batteries is 3 hours. In some cases, it can be reduced to one hour.
The company uses modular batteries in its work, which are suitable for any electric vehicles. Their number is selected taking into account the dimensions of the car. At the moment, Ample has established cooperation with a number of car fleets, one of which is Uber.
