Modern ROVs (remotely controlled unmanned underwater vehicles) work with wires through which energy is supplied. This is due to the fact that radio waves are difficult to pass through the water column. A long cable is quite heavy. He often gets stuck in hard-to-reach places under water. Besides, it is difficult to transport it.

The Swiss startup Hydromea has unveiled the ExRay device based on wireless technologies. Its work is carried out using the innovative Luma system. Its principle of operation is the transmission of underwater signals by LED pulses. The blue spectrum wavelength is 470 hm.

The Hydromea concept is not new. But the Swiss company has perfected the technology so that it can work in a prototype underwater vehicle.

Due to the high speed, video from the built-in camera in ExRay is broadcast in HD quality without delays. At the moment, communication in clear water at night reaches 50 meters. But the startup expects to double the working range in the near future. ExRay is ideal for work in confined spaces. Therefore, limited communication is not considered a big problem at the current stage.

The 7-kilogram gadget is launched by engines with a propeller system. They are located at the corners of the drone: 4 in the vertical plane, 3 in the horizontal plane. Due to this design, the device is distinguished by its maneuverability and 6 stages of freedom.

In addition, ExRay is equipped with two LED spotlights and an HD zoom camera. Without additional recharging, the drone can work from 6 to 8 hours. According to information from the manufacturer, sales will begin in the second half of this year.
