After a series of long-term studies, scientists have established a natural link between caries and the human cardiovascular system. In the course of research, it became known that dental problems can trigger a stroke.

To come to this conclusion, scientists studied the medical histories of 6.5 people who had never had a stroke in their lives. For the next 30 years, the health status of the volunteers was studied at regular intervals.

After 15 years, subjects who developed oral diseases had a slight increase in the risk of cerebral bleeding. But after a while, the risk of developing a stroke in patients with diagnosed caries increased four and a half times compared with those who did not have such a problem.

For the reliability of the data obtained, the experts took into account not only the state of the oral cavity, but also age, gender, race, blood pressure parameters and the general presence of concomitant diseases.

The scientists explained that among the total number of strokes, cerebral bleeding accounts for 10-20%. They are more dangerous and carry a greater risk of death than ischemic strokes.

Ischemic strokes happen when an artery blocks blood flow. Gum disease causes 20 to 30 bacterial infections. The most common type of bacteria in the mouth is Streptococcus mutans.

In addition, the researchers conducted a number of experiments with animals. Experiments have confirmed the theory of scientists. According to experts, the best caries prevention is a timely visit to the dental office and thorough cleaning of teeth.
