Greening skyscrapers is a fashionable trend behind which is not only an attractive appearance, but also such an important mission as purification of polluted air. But Italian architecture firm Carlo Ratti Associati has gone a step further. She suggested using green spaces in buildings as a way to obtain environmentally friendly products.

The company has implemented the concept in the Jian Mu Tower project, according to which the facade of the building will become a large-scale hydroponic farm. The project will participate in a competition organized by Wumart.

The construction of the "farm scraper" will be carried out in Shenzhen. The height of the building will reach 218 m. In the main part of the building space, offices will once be located. In addition, the project involves a supermarket and a restaurant. On the roof of the 51-storey skyscraper there will be terraces with plants: lilies, ferns and lychee trees.

For the cultivation of crops on the facade of the building, 10 thousand square meters are allotted. Thanks to this, people will receive 270 thousand kg of food annually. This amount is enough to feed 40 thousand people. The electricity consumption required for air conditioning the building can be reduced by natural shading from the plants.

Engineering studio Arup will undertake the development of load-bearing structures. The company ZERO from Italy is responsible for the functioning of hydroponics. A virtual "gardener" with artificial intelligence will take care of the plants.

On our site, plant care products are presented in the section "Garden, vegetable garden".
