Expressive and realistic: a married couple creates engravings on plywood

Real masterpieces of art are created by a married couple from Pittsburgh.
Incredible engravings on ordinary plywood are made so skillfully that you want to study and enjoy every detail.

The craftsmen put a piece of their soul into each of their creations. One of the last works of the couple was titled "The Moon". The product depicts lunar craters, mountains and oceans. The landscape, done in two colors, looks very realistic. Due to the careful study of each element of the engraving, the drawing looks as voluminous as possible.

Paul Roden and Valerie Lueth are engraved on birch plywood entirely by hand. Craftsmen draw a sketch, transfer the workpiece to a tree, and then proceed to carving with special tools.

After cutting out a complete engraving, craftsmen move on to the preparation of individual blocks. The number of blocks depends on the color scheme of the future product. But each of them is rolled by the masters with paint. This allows the blocks to leave an imprint on the paper. The couple repeat this procedure until they get the bulge effect.

Each artwork by artists contains hundreds of intricate details that form the main drawing. Sometimes it takes up to six months to create one engraving. After all, due to a small mistake, Paul and Valerie will have to redo all the work.

The works of the spouses are very popular. Wooden engravings will last a long time if you follow the simple rules of use. Paul Roden and Valerie have opened a small workshop where everyone can buy a special piece.
