Jacques Rougerie, an architect from France, presented a conceptual project of the sea city. A huge stingray, the sea devil, was taken as a prototype.
The ship, which is 900 m long and 500 m wide, will be conditionally divided into two zones - residential and public. The living area will house cabins and resting areas. The public area will be given over to audiences, lecture halls, laboratories. The number of people who can simultaneously be on board will be about 7 thousand people.
The floating city will be completely autonomous and environmentally friendly. It is planned to use only renewable water energy for its supply. No waste and no emissions.
Rougerie's maritime city will be used to explore the ocean. There will be people who are as partial to the expanses of water as the architect himself.
Previously, the Frenchman managed to create a vertical laboratory, which is in the process of implementation. It is assumed that it will become part of the oceanic settlement.
Rougerie became famous for his ability to bring unrealistic projects to life. The architect is inspired by the inventions of Jacques-Yves Cousteau and the works of Jules Verne. He started designing his quirky water houses back in the mid-1970s.
Rougerie considers the depths of the sea to be no less interesting than outer space. And he does not understand why researchers are so eager to leave the planet, if there is still so much unexplored on Earth.
And earlier one could read about all this only in fantastic books, many of which are exhibited in the section
Literature of the OXO website.
