Architects from Herzog & de Meuron are the authors of the project for the construction of the Elbe Philharmonic in Habsurg. The project stretched out for almost 10 years and spent almost 800 million euros.
An old warehouse building from the 1960s was used as the basis. It was located in the bay of the Elbe River, surrounded by docks, construction and storage facilities.
The architects were given a difficult task - to transform the forgotten building into a cultural complex. However, after almost 10 years of work, they did it. Inside there is a concert hall, a chamber music hall, a hotel, restaurants, sports and conference halls.
According to the architects, the old warehouse became the main one for the future Philharmonic. Brick room with small holes - like windows. The old warehouse was decorated with glass vaults. The upper part is partly made up of panels that reflect sunlight and create the effect of a play of shadows. The top is also mounted in a rather unusual way - carved waves echoing the port facilities and the surrounding water.
In the middle of the building, between the brick main building and the glass superstructure, there is a balcony. It is the link between the past and the present of the warehouse.
If you look at the building of the Philharmonic from afar, it will seem that there is a crystal on the hinge. The Elbe Philharmonic has become a great place for all music lovers.
And those who cannot visit such places can enjoy playing musical instruments at home. You can buy them on the OXO website in
the section of the same name.
