The Microsoft team has introduced a soft module for solitary work. The project was honored with the Red Dot Design Award 2021.

The soft module is made of felt material and is designed for increased concentration at work. Outwardly, it resembles a cocoon, equipped with a widescreen screen, desk and seat. Additional pull-out panels are installed on the sides, making the workplace more comfortable.

The monitor can be moved to a tabletop and tilted for a better view. This allows the design to be tailored to the specific user.

As lighting, LED backlighting is used, which gives warmth to individual elements of the cocoon.

The working area can be transformed. The back panel is modular, so it can be removed at the request of the seated person. However, it is unlikely that it will be possible to completely close such a cocoon, since it is not equipped with devices for a long stay inside.

After the presentation, the authors of the project decided to make some adjustments - to make the seat more comfortable, round off the widescreen screen, and add mobility to the panels. Going forward, the Microsoft team will look at other design features to make the experience more comfortable.

These cocoons are envisioned to be available soon in offices, studios and hybrid workspaces. And regulate their filling at the request of the seated person.
