Carved out of wood, Gerard Mas's creations are incredibly realistic. Looking at the sculptures, it seems to the viewer that they are about to start barking, meowing and grunting. It is hard to believe that the master makes them by hand without outside help.
For maximum similarity, the sculptor uses his own developed techniques, which are maximally adapted to the characteristics of the material.

The artist received his special education at the School for the Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Values. During his studies, Gerard realized that of all the possible options, working with wood brings him the most pleasure. “Wood is soft and flexible. Its “living” texture inspires special works, ”the author shared.

The artist begins his work by looking for suitable tree trunks. It is not only the type of tree that matters, but also its age. Then Mas carves the shape of the animal from the log. After that, the master grinds for hours, planes, and then grinds the workpiece using fine-grained emery paper. The sculptor achieves the effect of volume by visually darkening certain areas. To do this, Jared resorts to the procedure for firing the material under an open fire. This is how the craftsman recreated the face of the German shepherd dog and the Doberman fur, achieving stunning realism.

In addition to animal figures, Gerard Mas is known for creating characters from the Renaissance, adapted to a modern manner in a playful manner.

Through his work, the artist demonstrates that real works of art can be created with a chisel, hammer and sandpaper. Everything you need for this type of creativity can be purchased in the section "Hand Tools".
