New life for skateboards: Haroshi sculptures

What is the relationship between skateboarding and creativity? Initially, it seems that none. Long-standing patterns are being destroyed by Tokyo-based artist Haroshi. A talented Chinese man demonstrates that absolutely any material can be used to create real masterpieces. For example, skateboards that have already served.

Haroshi was fond of boarding since childhood. He spent all his free time with a skateboard on the streets of Tokyo. Haroshi's worn out and broken skateboards were not thrown into the trash, but left as a keepsake. Gradually, the collection of boards became so large that the question arose about the place of its storage. Then the Chinese thought that the preserved copies could become something new and continue to delight the owner.

The master began to process the decks, pressing the products on a special machine. After this procedure, the boards acquire an unusual texture, reminiscent of pixels, mosaics, smalt, Murmansk glass and other structural patterns.

The author notes that each work contains a piece of the artist's soul. Its miniature metal skate details symbolize it. Haroshi borrowed this idea from an ancient Chinese artist from the 12th century. Unkei created sculptures of the Buddha, inside which he placed a crystal ball as a symbol of the soul.

The Chinese learned how to create original sculptures on their own. He honed his skills step by step, developing his own techniques along the way. Creativity became an outlet for Haroshi, in which he harmoniously combined two of his main passions: art and skateboarding.

The craftsman created the first sculptures in his youth, but he became famous all over the world in 2010 (after his first exhibition took place).
