Everyone who has ever encountered agriculture knows firsthand how difficult the process of getting rid of weeds is. Especially if this procedure is performed manually. But resorting to treating crops with special herbicides is not the best alternative in terms of environmental friendliness. That is why a consortium from Germany decided to develop an automated mechanism that would take over this task. So, engineers presented a prototype of a weed killer robot, which was given the name AMU-Bot.

For movement in the fields, the gadget is equipped with a caterpillar track. Thanks to this, in open areas, he makes autonomous trips through the beds. A LiDAR system (on-board scanner) is responsible for the navigation of the robot. When one row ends, the robot turns around and moves on to the next. At the same time, the AMU-Bot carefully navigates important plantings so as not to damage the plants.

The robot cannot identify each separate type of landing. But easily distinguishes cultivated plants from pests. When a weed is detected, the system activates a mechanism (rotary harrow) similar to the toothed reel used on lawn mowers. The harrow loosens the soil and then pulls out the plant along with the root.

In the event that the weeds are between the rows, the harrow turns in front of the robot in the process of its continuous forward movement. And if a harmful plant grows honey with sowing bushes, then the robot stops its movement and moves the harrow to the side.

Besides eliminating weeds, farming (as well as maintaining a garden) requires a lot of effort. A tool that will be useful in this activity is presented in the section "Garden, vegetable garden".
