The NASA space agency has developed sleeping bags that can solve vision problems in astronauts.

The design is equipped with a special technology that regulates the outflow of fluid from the head to the extremities. This allows the pressure on the brain to be reduced along the way.

To use such a bag, the astronaut just needs to lie on the bed and place the lower half of the body in the sleeping bag. The device begins to operate from the moment it is turned on and functions until it is turned off.

The problem facing astronauts is visual impairment. Indeed, due to the lack of gravity, fluid accumulates near the eyeballs: it weakens the optic nerves, reduces vigilance and concentration on the object. Scientists call this condition neuro-ocular syndrome.

On Earth, this issue is solved by the action of gravity. After all, the fluid in the body naturally sinks to the legs. And it does not give an increased load, as it happens in space, on the upper body.

At the moment, development tests are being completed. So far 10 people have passed them and the results have been quite successful. But it is not yet clear how much time an astronaut should spend in such a bag on a daily basis. It is also unclear whether everyone should sleep in it, or only those who are predisposed to the aforementioned syndrome.

The study and testing of astronauts' health problems is documented in periodicals. You can find information about such developments in the Literature section of the OXO website.
