A skyscraper garden that can breathe: a project by Stefano Boeri
"Vertical forest" will appear in the capital of Albania - Tirana. The original design of the glass tower was developed by the architect Stefano Boeri Arcitetti.
The building, called "Tirana Verital Forest", is equipped with balconies with trees, fragrant herbs and flowers. The tower will become another hallmark of the city. In addition to the aesthetic component, such buildings perform an important function of air purification. Green spaces not only absorb harmful substances, but also create a special microclimate that is beneficial for urban residents.
The Tirana Vertical Forest is not the first creation by Stefano Boeri Architetti. Similar works by the architect are already on display in cities such as Nanjing, Utrecht and Milan. And they all had a positive impact on the environment.
The house will have 21 floors, which will house 105 apartments with panoramic windows. The first floor is reserved for shops and restaurants. 4 underground levels can serve as a parking lot. 145 trees and more than 3 thousand shrubs will decorate the walls of the tower. According to Stefano, such a solution will give the city more than 500 square meters of plant area.
Mediterranean greenery will envelop 3 of the 4 walls of the residential building. From the windows, residents of the house will enjoy a view of the central landmark of the city (Mother Teresa Square). At the same time, the vegetation placed on the balconies will add an additional zest to the view.
“We chose Mediterranean plants for planting on the terraces of Tirana Verital Forest. After all, they are the most suitable for the local ecosystem, which means they will get along well and will grow rapidly, ”said Laura Gatti. (landscape architect of the project).
