Jao-Rakitine presented a new series of monolithic furniture designed for the streets. The landscape designer's latest project is a marble drinking fountain and bench in front of London's Selfridges department store.
Designed Jao-Rakitine's outdoor sculptural collection commissioned by department store architect David Chipperfield. Jao's creation is part of Selfridges' concept to improve the urban landscape.

The original bench is made in 4 sizes and with different shapes of seats. This solution is focused on meeting the needs of people with different physical data.
“The sketches of the hand became the beginning of the work,” Jao-Rakitine shared about the process of creating furniture. “After that, I modeled clay elements in several ways. After the final approval of proportions, materials and functionality, I scanned the models in 3-d format.”

A CNC machine was used to shape the stone blocks. At the stage of manual finishing of furniture, a professional bricklayer took part. The marble from which the sculptures are made was brought from Tuscany. Its age is at least 25 million years.
