North Carolina resident Yumi Okita invents and makes giant insect stories come true. The prototypes are real creatures with wings.

Moths, cicadas and butterflies of different sizes are so realistic that it seems that they are about to fly. The flapping of the wings of such a creature will inevitably lead to a slight breeze. However, they are immobilized.

In his work, an American master of Japanese origin uses fabric, wire and additional materials for finishing. Yumi Okita considers her artistic goal to exalt the image of insects and rethink nature.

For detailing, the master uses various needlework techniques - embroidery, crocheting, hand painting. Colors and their combinations are of particular importance. As a rule, Yumi Okita gravitates towards natural shades. She tries to depict a moth or a butterfly in the form that an insect looks like in natural conditions.

Often bright wings are used for wings. But the American does not stop only at the form. She adds texture and depth to them through dyeing or embroidery.

To make the body of the insect look as realistic as possible, wire and fur are used during the formation of the "skeleton". To top it off, everything is crocheted.

Such insects become a wonderful decor decoration. They can be placed on furniture, walls due to the available hooks.
You can find materials for doing this hobby on the OXO website in the "Sewing and needlework accessories" section.
