In the United States, scientists have discovered a fossil forest. The fossilized remains, in their opinion, are about 386 million years old.

The fossilized remains date from the end of the Devonian period. At that time, the first land creatures began to appear on earth, as well as tree plants, which are considered the immediate ancestors of modern forests. About it writes ScienceAlert.

Scientists have been able to identify fossilized fragments of the roots of archeopteris. They also found traces of fern-shaped and another species, possibly related to plunovymi.

According to American researchers, it is the archeopteris that are considered the ancestors of modern forests. These plants already had leaves close in structure and types to modern ones.

Earlier it was reported about the find on the beach of Somerset, England. There, a local resident discovered the remains of an ancient creature washed ashore by the surf. They probably belonged to an ichthyosaur - a prehistoric marine predator.
