The largest flower was discovered in the Indonesian jungle. Rafflesia, a parasite plant, which spends most of its life in the tissues of the host plant, became the record holder. Its diameter was almost 122 cm.
Due to the size of these representatives of the flora, they are often called "monsters." For example, in 2017 in Western Sumatra, a rafflesia flower with a diameter of 112 cm blossomed,
reports CNN.
The new bud is 10 cm larger than its predecessor. Moreover, it blossomed in the same place where a previous record holder appeared - a flower of rafflesia.
This plant has no root or leaves. It is a parasite, feeding on water and nutrients through the carrier to which it attaches. Moreover, you can notice rafflesia only if the flower opens its petals. It blooms no more than a week.
Rafflesias are considered a "cadaveric flower." When it blooms, it starts to emit an unpleasant smell of rotten meat, which attracts insects.
Earlier, OXO wrote that in the United States, scientists discovered
fossil forest. The fossilized remains, in their opinion, are about 386 million years old.
