Viruses of unknown origin were found in the glaciers of Tibet. An international group of scientists believes that they relate to different periods, since they differ from each other.

The find was made after analysis of two cores of ice from the Tibetan glacier. 28 unknown viral groups were detected. Their further research will help to understand what viruses existed in different environments and conditions, reports Live Science .

To extract the infectious agents, the researchers placed the cores in the laboratory at a temperature of -5 ° C and cut off part of the substance with a sterilized band saw. So they were able to access the pristine frozen layers. After that, the sections were washed with ethanol.

A total of 33 groups of viruses were found, but 5 of them have already been described in scientific papers. According to researchers, they all belong to different periods, since their device is different from each other.

“In the worst case, melting ice due to climate change can release pathogens into the environment. In this case, we should know in advance what they are,” the authors of the scientific work noted.

It was previously reported that finding astronomers. They discovered the most distant dying galaxy, which is located at a distance of 12 billion light-years from Earth.
