Paper sculptures are created by Canadian artist Calvin Nichols. The finished work is incredibly detailed.

The artist resorts to using standard tools - scissors, brushes, scalpel, blade. The material is white paper.

The future sculpture begins with an idea. Calvin Nichols goes to zoos and watches animals and birds for a long time. He tries to capture their facial expressions and gestures. He pays attention not only to the appearance - wool, plumage. But also to "communicate" with each other.

After studying the notes and preliminary sketches in the notebook, the Canadian proceeds to create a sketch of the future sculpture on paper. Details are carefully drawn. Sometimes you have to resort to coloring paper to get the desired shape.

Having created an image of a future animal or bird on paper, Calvin Nichols begins to cut out details and form a three-dimensional image. The artist gradually layers one layer after another. At the same time, pulling out individual parts with scissors and a scalpel.

Plumage and fur trimming takes up the bulk of the work. Sometimes a Canadian has to “separate” future wool or feathers using a scalpel and tweezers for several hours. Fixing them with special compounds.

Background is also important in Calvin Nichols' paper sculptures. As a rule, animals and birds are depicted in tropical or coniferous forests. And detail is also important - leaves, branches, needles.

The finished paper sculptures look very organic and detailed. These are white volumetric paintings that you really want to touch.
