Wabtec presented the first electric locomotive, which is able to reduce emissions into the environment. The device has been tested.

Railroad construction is standard. However, lithium-ion batteries are responsible for providing energy. And smart controls are used to optimize efficiency. The system is recharged in the depot, as well as during braking.

Testing was conducted over three months in California. The electric locomotive traveled more than 21 thousand km. "Competed" in speed, controllability and endurance with diesel units.

According to the manufacturer's data, the emissions of a battery electric locomotive into the environment are 11% less than in a similar railway transport. At the same time, the level of fuel economy stands at around 23.5 thousand liters.

Wabtec plans to create a locomotive that will exceed the existing model in size and, accordingly, reduce emissions and increase fuel economy. It is estimated that the improved version will be able to reduce carbon emissions by 30%.

This is not the first project of this type. Wabtec has a long history of developing rail transport and components that can minimize emissions of harmful substances into the environment. The new electric locomotive is yet another attempt that has been successful. But the company does not plan to stop there.

Test tests have shown that the future of rail transport is in electric transport. But he must be loyal to the environment.
