The old castle decided to create two entrepreneurs from France. Michel Guillot and Marilyn Martin were involved in the work of historians, archaeologists and builders.

The essence of the project is the construction of a medieval castle from scratch, which was named Guedelon. The finished structure should look like four towers connected by fortress walls. Complemented by a courtyard and living quarters.

To date, the project has been more than half completed. The roof of the main hall, vestibules, murals, guard rooms, etc. are ready for use. There are about 70 permanent workers working there. But annually, Guedelon is visited by about 600 tourists who have access to certain locations.

During the construction, historians and archaeologists received answers to previously unresolved questions. Building hypotheses and theories, models of the construction of individual elements were tested empirically. Once forgotten technologies have received their rebirth.

The stones for the castle were mined in nearby quarries, transported in carts and climbed onto the walls by means of wooden wheels with hemp ropes. The builders used a solution of lime and sand as cement.

The entrepreneurs even came up with a non-existent character named Gelbert, the owner of the Guedelon castle. This is a lower-level farmer who has received permission from his owner to build a house.

Construction on Guedelon began in 1997. It was supposed to end in ten years. However, the use of past technologies and adjustments during construction delayed the term until 2025.

Recently it was reported about the first eco-school to be built in Denmark.
